The Other Me: Masks That Reveal - Santa Rosa

Hours: Thursday-Saturday 11-4pm, Sunday 11-2

The ancient Greeks called masks ekstasis, which means to stand outside

Oneself.  We observe ourselves in the mirror.  Our own face fascinates us, questioning whether what we see reflected back is reality, or a projection,
a persona, an alter-ego behind which we hide.
Artists in this show reveal
who we are behind our public faces by creating masks, self-portraits &
wearable art.

An Evening with Holocaust Survivor Leon Malmed

6pm/Meet & Greet.

7-8:30pm - Leon Malmed’s story of him & his sister Rachel’s escape from
the
Holocaust in Occupied France.  When their Father & Mother were

arrested in 1942, their courageous & heroic French neighbors volunteered
to watch their children until they returned.  Leon’s parents were taken first
to Drancy, then to Auschwitz-Birkenau & they never returned. Meanwhile,
their downstairs neighbors, Henri & Suzanne Ribouleau, gave the children
a home & family & sheltered them through subsequent roundups, threats,
air raids & the war’s privations.  The courage, sympathy,& dedication of
the Ribouleaus & others stand in strong contrast to the collaborations
& moral weakness of many of the French authorities.  Leon & Rachel came
to America after the war, but always kept their strongest ties to
"Papa Henri & Maman Suzanne," who were honored as "Righteous Among
the Nations" by Yad Vashem in 1977.  Leon bares his soul in this narrative
of love & courage, set against a backdrop of tragedy, fear, injustice, prejudice, & the greatest moral outrage of the modern era.  It is a story of goodness triumphing once more over evil.  A special 15 min. video presentation of
Leon's story will be shown.  Signed copies of Leon Malmed’s book will be available for sale after the presentation.  Let us unite to send a clear message against hate & intolerance.  Never Again!
Tickets: $20 before Nov. 14, $25 after & at the door.
Preferred Seating & VIP Meet & Greet: $100 for 2, $180 for 4.
